Description
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia is hiring an Official Court Reporter based in Roanoke (Announcement 2026-23), a full-time regular excepted-service position that opened October 9, 2026 and remains open until filled. The reporter records and transcribes proceedings before the court\'s judges, provides readbacks, and prepares transcripts in accordance with Judicial Conference requirements. Applicants need at least one year of prime court reporting experience, NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification or equivalent, and realtime proficiency with computer-aided transcription; Registered Merit Reporter (RMR) or Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) credentials are strongly preferred. The reporter provides their own equipment and software, and the position involves travel, including overnight travel, to other divisions of the district.
