About us

Founded in 1982, Overby Court Reporting is an experienced court reporting service, with many years of professional dedication in North Carolina. We offer every modern court reporting service, including the latest in video conferencing, as well as various other technologically advanced methods. We offer the highest level of service to our clients, ensuring that we are meticulous in each of our processes.

Overby Court Reporting Service is seeking court reporters. Our court reporting service covers all of North Carolina; therefore, the role involves some light travel. This is a 1099 contractor position that requires availability Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm, but due to the nature of depositions typically only part-time hours are available. Our ideal candidate is professional, articulate, comfortable engaging with attorneys, and able to work autonomously.

Our court reporters are paid a daily rate to be available in addition to being paid for appearance and time at depositions. Our company is structured in a manner that allows court reporters to focus on taking depositions and they do not typically partake in the transcript production process.

We only ultize stenography via stenomasking. We do not work with stenotypists or digital reporters.

Duties would include, but are not limited to:

* Recording depositions through stenography via a stenomask and other recorders
* Maintains files, notes, tapes, and records

Qualifications and skills:

* Able to take dictation rapidly and accurately for extended periods of time
* Professional verbal and written communication skills
* Represent our company in a professional manner
* Highly dependable and organized
* Excellent attention to detail
* Highly adaptable

Candidates should possess a notary certification or be willing to become a notary. A bachelor’s degree in English or a related field is preferred. Experience would be beneficial, but we are willing to train the right person. A two year commitment from new contractors and signed contract are required if training is provided by our company. The training process is unpaid and typically involves 4-6 sessions that are approximately 1 hour in length over a period of 4-6 weeks. Candidates will be responsible for providing their own equipment and the equipment is needed in order to complete the training. We provide a list of the equipment that is needed.
