Description
Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) seeks a full-time paralegal for its Homeownership and Consumer Rights Unit (HCRU) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, working with the unit\'s economic justice practice group on consumer debt, including student loans. The paralegal interviews clients in person and by phone, drafts correspondence, helps defend clients facing debt-collection lawsuits, advises clients under attorney supervision on protecting limited income from seizure, writes demand letters and negotiates with collectors, supports affirmative litigation against debt collectors and loan servicers, helps student loan borrowers apply for discharges and affordable payment plans, assists clients with credit reports and consumer-fraud complaints, and creates Know Your Rights materials for community workshops. Required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED, strong writing skills, and computer literacy including Microsoft Office; Spanish fluency and social-services or advocacy experience are preferred. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until filled, with submission by November 2, 2026 encouraged. Pay: $50,850 minimum starting salary, increasing with relevant experience under the collective bargaining agreement
